Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first efforts to be an established star failed. Two different record label signed her before she ended her contract before she'd made any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The album's title track was a jolly and playful song that attracted modest press attention. I Loved a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, accompanied by a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. The track quickly generated controversy, as critics criticized it for promoting same-sex relations as well as others argued that the sexually explicit scene that it depicted was a harbinger for the fantasies of males about female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world thanks to its blend of excitement and an elegant song melody. It was also instrumental in driving sales for her 2008 album called One of the Boys. The sharp, lively second track was popular. The album Perry composed for herself sold more than three million copies in United States.
